This listing is for one White Convict Cichlid.

The Convict Cichlid stands as a cornerstone in the realm of fishkeeping, cherished for its low-maintenance demeanor, striking appearance, and ease of reproduction.

Ideal for novices, the Convict Cichlid boasts a modest size, with males typically reaching lengths of around 15cm, while females tend to grow to about 10cm.

Inhabiting the flowing streams and rivers throughout Central America, these resilient creatures demonstrate adaptability to various water conditions, thriving in environments with a mild current, ample rocky shelters, and vegetation.

Sporting a distinctive white/pink coloration adorned with black and grey stripes, the Convict Cichlid derives its moniker from its striking resemblance to the prison garb of its namesake.

Though generally mild-mannered, these cichlids can display aggression, particularly during breeding periods. It's advisable to house them separately or in spacious community tanks, ensuring a minimum capacity of 200 liters to accommodate their territorial behavior.

Convict Cichlids exhibit a hearty appetite, readily consuming a diverse diet that includes high-quality fish flakes or pellets, supplemented with live and frozen fare like bloodworms, tubifex worms, brine shrimp, and Daphnia.

Distinguishing between genders is straightforward, with males typically larger and females developing a yellowy red hue on their underbelly upon reaching sexual maturity.

Breeding Convict Cichlids is a straightforward affair, with pairs spawning prolifically and frequently. Simply providing suitable breeding conditions, such as flat stones or clay pots arranged in cave-like structures, can prompt breeding behavior.

Once eggs are laid, the female diligently guards them while the male patrols the perimeter, ensuring the safety of the brood. The parents demonstrate remarkable care for their offspring, actively tending to their needs and fiercely defending them against potential threats.

They are great for almost any freshwater aquarium as well.
