The Opaline Gourami, a captivating color variant of the Three Spot Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus), boasts vibrant golden tones and distinct striped patterns along its back. Unlike its parentage, it lacks the two dark spots, enhancing its overall attractiveness in the aquarium. In their natural habitat, Three Spot Gouramis thrive in lowland wetlands, occupying marshes, swamps, peatlands, and slow or stagnant waters with abundant aquatic vegetation. Their omnivorous diet includes crustaceans, insect larvae, and zooplankton.

Known for their hardiness, Opaline Gouramis are excellent choices for novice aquarists, displaying individual personalities and using their pelvic fins to explore and interact with their environment and tank mates. Despite being considered good community fish when young, their temperament can change as they mature, with some becoming territorial or belligerent, especially towards smaller fish. Adult Opaline Gouramis can reach up to 15 cm in length, requiring at least a 150-liter tank.

Creating a well-decorated tank with hiding places and floating plants is essential to accommodate both dominant and quieter personality types. Their omnivorous diet encompasses live, fresh, and flake foods, with a base of quality flakes or pellets. Supplementation with bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetables like blanched lettuce ensures a balanced diet. Feeding once or twice a day supports their well-being.
