Koi fish are brightly colored ornamental carp known for their stunning patterns and long lifespans. They can come in a variety of colors, including white, black, red, yellow, blue, and cream, with many different combinations of markings and patterns. Some common varieties include Kohaku (white and red), Sanke (white with red and black), and Showa (black with red and white). They are popular in outdoor ponds and water gardens due to their beauty, hardiness, and peaceful nature.

Size:
Koi can grow to a significant size, ranging from 60 cm to over 1 meter in length, depending on the environment and care. In large, well-maintained ponds, they can reach their full potential size.

Care:
Koi fish thrive in large, well-filtered outdoor ponds with plenty of space to swim. They require good water quality, so regular water changes and strong filtration are essential. Koi are hardy and can tolerate cold temperatures, even surviving winters in outdoor ponds, as long as the pond is deep enough (at least 1.5 meters) to prevent freezing.

Diet:
Koi are omnivorous and will eat a wide variety of foods, including pellets, flakes, live foods (like worms or insects), and plant matter. Their diet should include high-quality koi pellets, especially during the warmer months when their metabolism is more active. In colder months, they should be fed less frequently or not at all, as their metabolism slows down.

Breeding:
Koi fish breed naturally in ponds during the spring and summer months when the water warms up. They are egg-layers, and the female will scatter eggs around the pond, especially in areas with plants or spawning mats. The eggs hatch in 4-7 days, and the fry will need protection, as adult Koi may eat them.

Lifespan:
With proper care, Koi can live for 25 to 35 years, and some even surpass 50 years, making them long-term companions for pond owners.
