This listing is for one Cobalt Blue Cichlid,

In an aquarium setting, Cobalt Blues thrive best in a cichlid community tank adorned with ample rocks, caves, and a sandy substrate, providing plenty of opportunities for territorial setup. Utilizing an aragonite-based substrate or coral sand is recommended to maintain the required high pH and alkalinity levels.

To mitigate aggressive behavior, it's advisable to maintain a group of more than 10 mbunas, distributing territorial disputes. Tanks ranging from 300 to 400 liters with adequate rock formations and hiding spots are essential to offer refuge from potential conflicts among tankmates. Smooth-surfaced gravel is preferred, as mbunas often manipulate it with their mouths. While mbunas appreciate plants, they tend to uproot them due to their substrate-rearranging habits.

Male Cobalt Blue should be housed with multiple females. These mouth brooders exhibit intriguing spawning behavior, with males intensifying colors to signify readiness for breeding. Females, when prepared to spawn, enter the male's territory, triggering aggressive interactions. Eggs are laid in gravel pits, picked up by the female, and fertilized by the male's sperm. This process repeats until the female harbors a brood of 10 to 50 eggs in her mouth.

Following spawning, the female safeguards the eggs in her mouth for about a week until hatching, with fry seeking refuge inside the female's mouth for up to a month. During this period, the female abstains from eating. Once fry can fend for themselves, the female stops harboring them. Given the stress incurred during this phase, it's advisable to house the female separately.

Cobalt Blues should be fed a diet rich in vegetable matter, including flakes, pellets, and leafy seaweeds.

They are great for almost any freshwater aquarium as well.
