This listing is for one Convict Cichlid.

The Convict Cichlid is a popular freshwater fish known for its bold black-and-white vertical stripes, resembling a convict's uniform. They are hardy, easy to care for, and have a reputation for being highly territorial, especially when breeding. Males can reach up to 15 cm, while females remain smaller, around 10 cm. Aside from the standard striped variety, there is also a pink/white variation known as the Pink Convict.

Care:
Convict Cichlids thrive in well-maintained aquariums with stable water conditions. A tank of at least 200 liters is recommended, especially if kept with other fish. They enjoy a setup with rocks, caves, and other hiding spots. Though plants are optional, sturdy ones are preferable, as they may uproot or damage more delicate species. Convicts appreciate a slight current, simulating their natural riverine habitats.

Temperament:
Convict Cichlids can be aggressive and territorial, particularly during breeding. They are best kept in species-only tanks or with other robust fish that can handle their feisty nature. While they are generally timid when not breeding, their behavior changes significantly during mating, making them aggressive toward other tankmates.

Diet:
These cichlids are not picky eaters and will accept a wide range of foods, from high-quality flakes and pellets to live and frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. They also appreciate vegetable matter in their diet, so including spirulina or blanched vegetables like spinach and zucchini is beneficial for their health.

Breeding:
Convict Cichlids are prolific breeders and very easy to breed. Males and females can pair up naturally, and once a pair forms, they will readily spawn if provided with hiding places like caves or flat stones. Females lay 20-30 eggs, which are mouth-brooded and fiercely guarded. Both parents are highly protective of their fry, helping them find food and keeping them safe from predators.

Sexual Differences:
Males are larger and have longer, more pointed fins. Females are smaller and often develop a yellow or reddish hue on their belly when sexually mature.

The Convict Cichlid's hardy nature, ease of breeding, and distinctive appearance make it a popular choice for experienced aquarists, especially those who enjoy observing interesting fish behavior.

They are great for almost any freshwater aquarium as well.
