  • 2L Peat Moss. Great for shrimp.
  • Lowers PH
  • Adds healthy tannins and more to the water.

Oliver Knott Organic Peat Moss is recognised as a superior natural way of lowering freshwater shrimp water pH with the additional benefits of releasing acid rich tannins which also helps soften the water.

Shrimp Peat is made from 100% organic peat moss from the pure world famous Canadian sphagnum moss bogs. Shrimp Peat acts in the aquarium by binding calcium and magnesium ions and simultaneously breaking down bicarbonates resulting in hardness reduction and a lower pH.

How do I use it?

It is recommended to use Shrimp Peat in small amounts and gradually increase the amount needed in order to lower the pH to your required levels. It is recommended not to lower the pH more than 0.2 per 24 hours.

As time passes the beneficial properties of Shrimp Peat will diminish as the Peat Moss decomposes. Monitor your pH levels at regular intervals and replace the Shrimp Peat as required.

You can just place some of it in the path of your filter flow, or, using a filter sock, place the desired amount of Shrimp Peat directly inside your filter, usually between the filter pad and other media you may have.

This same technique can be used by placing the sock directly into the aquarium next to the filter water current which will ensure the tannins spread evenly.

Using the leaves:
Leaves will float on the top of the tank for 2-3 days while soaking in water. They will then sink to the bottom. After 2-4 weeks, or when the leaves start breaking apart, the leaves are spent and you can remove them from the tank.

Dosage:
Dosage depends heavily on what you use them for and the water conditions, but a good minimum for pronounced effects is around 1 leaf per 40 liters. You can increase this to up to 1 leaf per 15 liters for fry, quarantine or treating sick fish.
